論文の書き直しを進めているので、英語表現についての記事をまた進めていきます。

単語の意味と共起表現、クラスター
日本語にもそのままなっていますが、メカニズム・機序という意味ですね。コーパスではfor, ofなどと相性が良く一緒に用いられているようです。日本語にも浸透している表現なので、同様の使い方であまり問題はなさそうです。用例で、形容詞との組み合わせを見ておくのが、実際書くときに役立ちそうです。
用例

disease mechanismだけで「病気の機序」という意味になりますが、Underlyingをつけることで、「背景となっている」という原因的な意味合いを強く持たせることができます。
The presumed pathogenetic mechanisms included large vessel infarction in 50%, arterial dissection in 15%*2
pathogeneticなど病態に絡む形容詞は相性が良く、頻繁に用いられています。以下も同様ですね。

To confirm these outcomes, goal-targeted studies are recommended to exactly identify epidemiological scenarios and explore potential pathogenic mechanisms of these complications. *3
pathological, pathogenicなどですね。これから推定されていく機序などの話も含める場合は後半の例のようにpotentialなどの未確定であることを示す単語も良く使われます。
These tremor phenotypes may be associated with different underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms, requiring a different therapeutic approach.*4
ここにもunderlyingが出てますね。これもやはり未確定である機序について語る場合に良く使われるようです。
