今回は「行う」「施行する」などの訳で用いられることの多いconduct, perform, undertakeの違いについて、みてみます。

単語の意味と共起表現
まずは単語の意味から。

・conduct
to organize and perform a particular activity
・perform
to do an action or piece of work
まずこの2つを比較してみると、conductがある活動全体をorganize(=組織する)という形で指揮をとるような意味であるのに対し、performはpiece of workというように仕事全体というよりはその一部を行うものであることが分かります。
コーパスで見ても、performの目的語になるものはoperation, analysis, surgeryなどの具体的な一部の活動であるのに対して、conductの目的語はresearch, survey, investigation, studyなど研究プロジェクト全体を指す者となります。
この感じの違いはそのまま下記の論文中の例でもよく当てはまると思います。
・undertake
to do or begin to do something, especially something that will take a long time or be difficult
undertakeは「着手する」という訳がとられる時もあることから分かる様に、何かを「行い始める」というbeginの意味も原義に含んでいます。またある程度時間がかかる事柄を指すため、医学論文で出るもので言うと、study, researchなどが目的語になりやすいと思います。

研究計画全体を指すstudyはconductの目的語に非常になりやすいですね。weを主語に持って来るか、受動態の形で使われます。

・perform

検査、診察手技、手術などはperformが多用されます。ただ、あまり内科的な治療についての場面では用いられていないような気がします。

データ分析を行うという意味合いでもperformは用いられています。

undertakeはstudyなどの研究全体を主語に持ってきて受動態で用いられる例が多く見られました。3つ目の例文のように「今のところ着手されていない」「始められてもいない」と言う意味合いで使うにはぴったりな単語なように思います。

ステロイドの減量に関する論文の実験プロトコールからの一文ですが、ステロイド減量がある程度長期間を必要とするものであるためか、こういった治療の場面でもundertakenが用いられていました。
